Falklands War 'true hero' Captain Rick Jolly dies.

Not one usually to start an RIP thread, and I know it's "not West Ham" but if there was ever a man who deserved to be named a hero it was this guy. Read about him some years ago and had to take my hat off to him so to hear he has died is sad. RIP Sir.

No problem, as I said I don't usually post these as sadly people die every day but I was surprised this didn't headline so it was easily missed and the guy was clearly a class act.

You are correct .
Surgeon Cmdr Anthony Lambert met him several times, the first time shortly after he returned from the Falklands in 1982.
He said: “As medics we aren’t heroes, we just do our job, but he did his job incredibly well and was an inspiration to my generation”.

Outside of the Infantry..the Medical corps see more horrific sights than any human being should be subjected to.

Just reading a book on the war at the moment. He had no training to go down on the winch and into the sea to save his comrades. An incredible example of the man’s tremendous bravery.

I didn't realise medics jumped into a sea with a temp. of 2c. That is beyond seriously cold, and also not part of a medic's job spec., particularly without an immersion suit.

He once said "As medics we aren't heroes we just do our job".
But he was wrong about that, he was the epitome of a hero. Captain Jolly is owed a lot of thanks and gratitude by many British and Argentine soldiers, for his literally life saving work and in such difficult conditions too.

Saved two sailors from drowning and only 3 soilders out of the 580 british troops treated at his Ajax bay field hospital succumbed to their injuries. Deserves to rest in peace.
